Huay Yai

Huay Yai is a village (Tambon) and a district (Amphur) situated some 10km from South Pattaya.  In total it stretches over a wide area, east from Sukhumvit road and south of Soi Chaipruek2 to across the route 36 in the north and includes Phoenix Gold Golf Course & Country Club in the south and the 4 (almost 5) golf courses at Siam Country Club.  However the village is very much centred around Wat Huay Yai and its immediate surroundings.

The temple was originally built in 1643.  It is hard to believe that Wat Huay Yai was, as little as 2004 in a terrible state of disrepair but it now stands in all its magnificence as a beautiful example of architectural design based on the traditional style.  It’s origins began when the local faithful gave their land to build the temple and on the 5th of May 1702 it received a royal grant.  The temple complex covers almost 30,000 square meters (18 Rai) and around 50 monks live in the complex.  Beside the temple, every Friday morning, starting early, is a popular genuine local Farmers Market selling their produce.

Beyond Phoenix Gold Golf Course & Coutry Club to the south is the Kings Project known as Wat Yan & Vihara Sien (Wihan Sien), Buddha Mountain and Silver Lake Vineyard.

The village has grown rapidly in the last 10 years with the number of farang lived in housing dramatically rising in individual stand alone houses and villas and within many completed successful Moo Baan (gated villages).
